[Movie Review] 一吻定情 Fall in Love at First Kiss- A Heart-Fluttering Movie I Recommend To My Friends
It starts off with a kiss. What a sweet start right? But no. Then it goes downhill for Xiangqin, the female protagonist, as she is harshly rejected by Zhishu, the male protagonist that she crushes hard on after the accidental kiss. And somehow or another she moves in and stays with his family after becoming homeless. As dramatic as it sounds, it's actually a satisfying movie to watch!
There are also some values behind the movie to have your own purpose in life rather than just following what your parents assign you to do. You may lead a smooth-sailing life, but that's just dull and predictable. What's life without fun, joy and purpose?
I didn't really like Zhishu, the main guy, at first because the whole school's girls were head over heels for him. I thought people just liked him for his looks because he doesn't have good character. He talked in a very derogatory manner to others just because he has an IQ of 200 and is in Class A. But then you will start rooting for him after knowing his backstory. And that he is sensible and actually just needs to open up to someone who breaks his cold outer exterior.
I wish I saw more of Zhishu's little brother and how he changed and maybe more interactions with the girl. Only saw his iconic scene of insulting Xiangqin as a 笨蛋(idiot/stupid) in about 5 diff languages when "welcoming" her to his house to express his dissatisfaction. And how he looked sad when he had to bid her farewell when she eventually left the house with her dad. One crucial part where he played a role is how he explained his bro set his social media posts visible only to Xiangqin. Awwww. I would have loved to see more of these cute interactions and how he became closer to Xiangqin.
The girl Xiangqin is a typical anime girl character, clumsy and acting cute. But I mean, after all, this movie is a remake of the manga 'Itazura na Kiss (Mischievous Kiss)', like duh~ Fortunately she is very likeable and you can understand why she goes out to do certain things for Zhishu, though kinda absurd, from stalking Zhishu up the hill to changing course to become a nurse just because he wants to become a doctor. I wish she had her own ambitions and chased her own dreams instead of basing her entire life on Zhishu. XD
I wish they explained the news about why they were talking abt Zhishu and Shahui getting married?! Maybe they were just rumours. Anyway this is minor haha
Bonus: the styling of the actors and actresses!! So nice hahahhaa Wang Dalu is so swoon-worthy 😍😍
Still haven't got enough of the movie? Watch this! (https://youtu.be/YA-epdtfI7M)
I didn't know Dino Lee has a cameo inside XD Check out the Behind the Scenes~(https://youtu.be/nunq0zcnzOs)

The Good
PLOT
The plot pace is okay as it's not draggy. As it focuses on romance, it has 4 kiss scenes. Seems excessive? Not really, they seem appropriate and are not just there to make up the number so that the movie matches up to its name hahaha. Other than funny scenes, there were many tearjerking moments, like when Xiangqin thought that Zhishu was gonna marry Shahui and gave him her blessings, because if you love someone, you would wish for him or her to be happy. There are also some values behind the movie to have your own purpose in life rather than just following what your parents assign you to do. You may lead a smooth-sailing life, but that's just dull and predictable. What's life without fun, joy and purpose?
CAST
Strong supporting cast: I was surprised to see Lee Mingshun acting as Zhishu's dad. The mom was also very cute, which kinda explains why Zhishu would like Xiangqin, whose traits are similar to his mum. His mom is very supportive and tries to help in any way. Xiangqin's good pals and pursuer and gang also helped spice up the first part of the movie a lot. Especially at the Sports Meet scene, which sparked off Zhishu's first traces of jealousy.I didn't really like Zhishu, the main guy, at first because the whole school's girls were head over heels for him. I thought people just liked him for his looks because he doesn't have good character. He talked in a very derogatory manner to others just because he has an IQ of 200 and is in Class A. TECHNICALITY
I loved the lighting n dreamy atmosphere by how they played with the lighting. It made me ponder whether "They say the person you like (at 16 years old) will change your whole life." is really true or not. Framing and shots were all right! To Improve

CONCLUSION
Fall in Love at First Kiss is the perfect movie for Valentines' Day but couples and friends may want to catch it together even after Valentines' Day. Manga-lovers too. It definitely caters to people around my age group (16 to 25 years old). If you're a romantic comedy movie fan like me, you surely don't wanna miss this chance to unleash your youthful side! ;)Still haven't got enough of the movie? Watch this!
